If I am Born Again, Lord Please… book review

I have always been a fan of poetry and reading new poetry collections has always been a hobby of mine. And this time, I have stumbled upon a collection which is rather sentimental and based on true incidents – incidents of falling in love and getting to a different destination thereafter. If I am born again, Lord Please… is a poetry collection by Shopone, a poet who is liked to be known by his pseudonym.

The collection contains 7 long poems. All of them are detailed, containing different phases of the poet’s life and delivering different messages. The main focus of the poems is the love story of the poet, Shopone. He fell in love with an unnamed girl in his teenage and then continued loving her for long. Eventually, they met, they talked, the girl married someone else; all the details are beautifully depicted in poetic language in the book. The title is self-explanatory – If I am born again, Lord Please.

“I shall have your path
Strewn with rose petals,
Diamonds and Gems
Precious stones
And bits and pieces
Of my one and only
Heart.”

Romance in dreams – as the poet has suggested in the prologue, is the main feature of this collection of 7 poems. Moreover, the poet has also written about the experiences that he had further – a sense of awakening or a sense of understanding the world in depth. Much can be deciphered from the images which are attached to the poetry – different paintings made a long time ago by the poet himself and other representative images.

Critical Analysis:
I will put it frankly, as much as possible. The poetry has only been used as a medium to translate the emotions of the poet and render it transferable to the readers. Readers will have the opportunity to understand the different phases of love that the poet has entered a long time ago. Poems are not very elite in nature and rich in terms of diction. Poems are simple and expressive, to be honest, so that the readers can easily get the story behind the verse.

Ideal Readers:
Ideal readers for this book by Shopone will be the readers who love reading poems as well as love stories. However, this love story is serious enough. It’s not the usual one with romantic scenes described in sizzling words; it’s a detailed dilemma… it’s a detailed journey of a heart dipped in love and then a soul wanting to release itself from the threads… serious readers are certainly going to enjoy this work very much!

My Rating:
I will keep my rating for this book at 3.5. I am impressed by the way the story has been put out to the readers. The poems are not very elite and rich in poetic language but just simple enough to give away the story of the poet.
