Alok’s opinion on the novel, The Perfect Couple by Sunain Banga, in a nutshell:
“The book is a contemporary romance. But that’s not all… The Perfect Couple has an instant connect with the young readers especially. Even though I don’t read much of the contemporary romantic novels, I was compelled to read it! Like it? Yeah, I liked Ananya’s attitude and Raman’s passion…”
Sunain’s novel, the second one, The Perfect Couple, is a novel that concurs with the thoughts and emotions, ambitions and attitude of many youths, young men and women and the present generation. A guy who falls in love at 13 is not supposed, in general scenario, to hold on to that because 13 is too young to understand the importance, depth and dimensions of love. Even for a girl, falling in love too early and then falling out of it (infatuation, crush and attraction) is natural. However, Sunain’s story has different ideas – Raman and Ananya are school sweethearts who carry on their relationship till the end or to the point where the novel ends – five complete years.
Sunain Banga has worked on his plot mostly keeping in mind the major episodes between Raman and Ananya, the protagonists. As you could guess by the title itself, it’s all about the couple that’s perfect. Yes, there are other characters – major and minors, who appear in the novel. Raman is a guy with ambition. He wants to become a musician and singer. And that’s why he is just a casual guy in the class. Ananya, on the other hand, is a sensible girl with simple dreams. However, the one thing that’s common between the two is love that they share for each other.
Plot moves with time seal most of the times. The young novelist has timestamped the chapters, the breaks and the passages. You will find something like this:
TUESDAY, 7TH AUGUST 2012 8:30 p.m.
This becomes interesting and it feels like reading a diary of a guy named Raman who loves Ananya a lot!
Well, on a critical note, I would like to make a few points as well. Sunain Banga is a young author and it is natural that he would write what he mostly thinks; that’s why we see the theme of love and a plot encircling it coming all the way. However, the novelist has also tried to pacify the fiery theme of love with a bit of understanding, a bit of social scenario, a bit of ambition and in short, he has tried to make the theme a little broader and give the readers something more than the usual.
Language, narrative and handling of a duopoly plot have been well. I cannot criticise that because that’s well settled within the ambits of romantic fiction by a guy who loves reading romantic fiction himself. So, this one, The Perfect Couple, is going to be a very ideal and enjoyable read for teenagers, young readers and also those who are in love, have been in love or wanting to step into some love once again… If you are any of the above, do get a copy and begin your read asap!
