Review by: Alok Mishra
“Life is all about learning the new-new things. Never stop learning if you want to be energetic throughout your life. People will cheat you, snatch you, beat you, rape you, fuck you, kill you but a good book will always help you to transform yourself and develop many qualities in life.”
In chapter 25 of his book Kohinoor in You, Mukesh Kumar Shahi conveys this realistic idea to his readers; I call the idea realistic because I find the idea realistic. A book, certainly, can help you in many ways and most of the times it proves to be better than many human beings you meet, have met or might meet. Indeed, if you are thinking that the author is outrageous and he has used explicit words, you are right; I like this attitude of Mukesh because readers in this modern age do understand the things which you tell them in a modern way.
The book Kohinoor in You is a motivational book presented as the personal journey of a person through the corridors of quality books, spirituality, education and job.
Mukesh starts this book by giving a word-sketch of his grandfather’s (nana ji) life and how he learnt many things from him in order to feel this thirst for a life which could worth a thing – his grandfather ignited the spark in him to look around and find some real heroes who could inspire him in life and thus, his spiritual quest began. You will find various chapters on Gods, Hanumana, Sri Krishna, and then chapters explaining the holy books, Gita and Rayamana. The author leads the readers to his own spiritual quest when he had to spend time in an Ashram like set-up and abstain from various life-ly things that human beings generally indulge in.
Kohinoor in You is about the journey of Mukesh Kumar Shahi, the author to his talent-recognition and then he tells others how can one identify the natural or the in-born talent and then work on it to become successful in life. Indeed, that job is noble and helpful and with the help of various sources and methods, he has told many interesting and proven ways to find someone’s in-born talent.
“Mind has a constructive as well as destructive power. The way you use your mind, it goes in that direction. It is the most delicate, most sensitive instrument in the types of creation.”
Towards the conclusion of the book, the author has become very fluent and he offers very witty pieces of advice to the readers. In the chapter, How to be Creative All the Time, the author has come up with very interesting ideas to help a person remain creative 24*7 and never waste a moment. That’s good. And moving on, the book ends with blank pages for the readers to fill with their goals in life… Content is good.
Critically commenting, I liked the style of Mukesh’s writing, largely. However, because it was his second book, a reader could have got things delivered in (possibly) a better way than the current format. The author, for the help and benefit of the readers, has used his example and tried to tell the readers that if he could, anyone can. That’s noble and good. However, in such motivational books, the writer could be a little lesser dominative and I am not taking away anything from the very good effort of Mukesh Kumar Shahi; he has tried his best! :)
To the readers – this is very good a book – I will say that they must read it. It will do two things: help them knowing the author better and in course of knowing him better, you will understand the process of becoming better (according to the author himself). And it gives me, certainly, personal pleasure as well because the author is from my state – Bihar! A very good job at the end, Mukesh!
