“Poor Brahmins, forget your Gods
“and let go your Dharma
or be ready to killed inhumanly.”
Shouted the cruelty’s embodiment from the throne.
Sikandar Shah Miri, the savage Sultan
of Kashmir was eager
to murder
the most peaceful of the beings
on the land of Shiva,
the destroyer himself
and the kindest of all Devas.
“Throw your Janeu on the ground
“and sing glories to allah, the only one.
“Or be ready to die like animals
“for I am doing his duty, to take all
“in one fold so that the world may behold
“the glory of his kindness!”
Shouted at the top of his brutal throat,
once again, Butshikan, the barber.
“May the one for you be kind to you!”
Said one of the tied, wounded Brahmins,
unshaken and convinced with a smile
full of the radiance of eternity on his face,
as if he saw Moksha in front of him, the grace
of Vishnu and glory of Shiva!
“Our Gods are kind and they don’t propel
“any of us to rebel in their names
“and cause the annihilation of humanity!”
Continued that Brahmin in a tone unfettered
and put the self-obsessed king to his place.
His voice was resounding, serious and undeterred
as if he was ready for Mukti and to embrace (the death).
“O unkind king, O inhuman, savage and tyrant ruler
“you can bring you coward cavalry
“and cause our death, we are ready to die
“but not to obey you
“and put our Dharma Chinha down!
“This is not only thread as you see;
“this is what signifies our devotion,
“affection for our wisdom, ancient glory
“and many things you cannot imagine to fathom
“blinded by your lust for blood
“that, unfortunately, comes from a place
“unlikely!”
Rage in his eyes and devil in his heart
announced to everyone around
of the arrival of unholy in the name of holy.
Murders. Show or barbarism.
Swords. Dead bodies. Pieces of flesh.
Memories. Past. Ideals.
Our brave heroes who chose Janeu
over obeying a coward and embraced death
to uphold Dharma and their faith
in Shri Ram.
Batta Mazar.
The graveyard of glory.
A poetic tribute to all those Brahmins who chose death and their Janeu or Yagyopavit over conversion to islam
Alok Mishra
I came to know about this episode of gross inhumanity and display of cowardice by Kashmir’s once upon a time ruler Sikandar Shah Miri or Sikandar Butshikan who murdered thousands of Kashmiri Brahmins who did not accept his order to convert to islam.
Thanks to True Indology because it was because of his tweet that I could know of this part of history. (@TIinExile on Twitter)
