Blood in the Paradise: Book Review

How much can you suppress something which is meant to bounce back, to say, a spring? When the energy within reaches the zenith, it bounces back and bounces back with such a strength that the person who has suppressed cannot resist! Something like this you will get to read in the book by Madhav Mahidhar, the author of Blood in the Paradise. This is a thriller novel, if you ask me to classify it. However, this thriller takes so many turns that you cannot simply mark it yellow and let it slip in the box. This book has twists, solid circumstances, exciting plot and a very smooth (rather progressive) narrative which keep you stuck to it. Had your read yet, because the book is already in the market for months now?

I will give my opinion about the book today. Madhav Mahidhar, the author, is an IT professional and has already written a book before this one, but not in English. Blood in the Paradise is his first book in English. However, his subtle taste for a nearly psychological thriller is commendable! When the book arrived my place, I was rather sceptic and in a mode of denial. I thought it’d just be another youthful thriller of the modern age. However, as I read the book, all my pre-notions were turned down and the book appeared to be rather fresh in plot, theme, narrative and also the handling. This is the story of a wife, Madhumita, an experienced woman (also a divorced one) Anupriya and their handling of an adverse situation. Being drunkard is not good; nevertheless, drinking has become such a good occupation in our country that if you don’t drink, you are not considered of the twentieth century! Vikas, the husband of Madhumita is a typical example of a man who does not take his marriage, wife and family seriously. He has almost made the life of his wife a living hell! Now the situation for Madhumita becomes so adverse that she has to fight a battle – the judgment battle. She fights; she wins and she stands. Anupriya helps her in the battle and also in the aftermaths of the battle to deceive the talented and honest police officer Vishwaroop. Vikas is no more and life is good again. How is he killed; who killed him; is Madhumita guilty? There are many questions for which you need to read the book…

The author of Blood in the Paradise seems very well informed about the crimes, the psyche of the criminals and also the police interrogations. Descriptive illustrations of the police actions, police questionings, crime investigations and also the mental trauma through which Madhumita goes are really standing out. The signals of feministic perspective implicitly implied in the novel can be seen as the ex hypothesi of the situation of women in India. Just look around and you will find the book as a mere realistic reflection of what is going on and also foxing on freely!

As a verdict, I will say that the readers who love psychological fiction or the thriller books, not only them, but a general reader who loves realistic as well as reflexive fiction, must give it a read! Madhav has done a wonderful job as an author for the first timers. The language is simple and sometimes the slangs have been used which is only the demand of the modern writing trends to which an author has to give in – willingly or unwillingly! I hope you will enjoy reading the book as I Did! Happy reading folks and also a very happy new year to all my readers!
